Job Description:

About Parallelz:

Parallelz enables developers to instantly port their existing mobile apps/games to the web, without any SDKs, code changes, or engineering efforts. Developers can improve user acquisition, organic virality, create new revenue channels, and offer new user experiences and capabilities that were not possible before.

With Parallelz, users can access mobile apps instantly, with lossless quality, at full performance, on any desktop or mobile device. The Parallelz platform enables this by transforming existing native mobile apps into fully-native web apps, in real-time, that can be instantly accessible on any browser. Developers can now have a new frictionless way to reach their customers, free from the restrictions and taxations of the existing app stores. Through this technology, we're blurring the boundaries between web, mobile and desktop applications.

Our founding team includes founders of high-growth venture-backed startups, eight-digit profitable game studios, and one of the first commercial cross-platform game engines. We're fortunate to have the backing of some of the top games and consumer investors in Canada and Silicon Valley.

We're looking for a product designer who can operate independently and move quickly in ambiguous, early-stage environments. You'll have the freedom to work in whatever tools help you move fastest - Figma, Framer, Webflow, FigJam, or your own preferred stack - as long as you're hands-on and output-driven. This role will help shape the first user-facing experiences built on our technology and lay the groundwork for a broader design function.

This is a contract-based engagement with an irregular cadence-some periods will be busier than others. We don't require exclusivity, and it's perfectly acceptable for the contractor to take on other clients or projects while working with Parallelz. This is not a full-time role.

We prefer to hire locally in Toronto for a hybrid work environment but are open to considering remote candidates, as well.

Responsibilities:

We're a small, fast-moving team without an established design function or system. This role is an opportunity to define how users first experience our product. You'll work closely with the CEO and cross-functional stakeholders to design, prototype, and iterate on new consumer-facing experiences.

  • Lead end-to-end product design efforts - from sketches and wireframes to polished, high-fidelity prototypes
  • Design user interfaces and interactions for mobile and web experiences built with our core technology
  • Create early prototypes that help us test and validate new use cases (think: social, games, discovery, more)
  • Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team to iterate quickly on product concepts
  • Help define foundational design principles and systems (or at least impose some good taste)
  • Think creatively about interfaces that don't follow conventional app store or mobile patterns

Requirements

  • Comfortable flexing between UX, UI, interaction, and maybe even some light motion or prototyping
  • Experienced designing for mobile and web, ideally with a portfolio of consumer-facing work
  • Energized by the chaos of 0?1 product development and first-time user experiences
  • Bonus: experience working on consumer social, games, or discovery-driven products
