General Notes
The Data Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise analytics and reporting solutions with a strong emphasis on Power BI semantic modeling, advanced DAX, and SQL-based analysis. This role supports university leadership by delivering trusted, scalable, and well-governed data products used for financial, workforce, and operational decision-making.
This position goes beyond report creation and focuses on data modeling, metric definition, validation, and performance optimization.
This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.
This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel generally limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).
This position is expected to continue until October 30, 2027.

Purpose
We are seeking a Data Analyst to join the office of the CFO. As Data Analyst, you operate at the intersection of data analytics, data wrangler, and business intelligence to build robust, efficient, and scalable data structures to support high-quality, nuanced, and timely data analytics to empower strategic decisions and policies by University leadership and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Power BI & Data Modeling
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic models and datasets using dimensional and star-schema best practices.
- Build scalable and high-performing models to support enterprise and executive reporting.
- Implement and maintain Row-Level Security (RLS) and adhere to established data governance standards.
- Optimize model performance through effective management of relationships, cardinality, storage modes, and aggregations.
DAX Measure Development & Validation
- Develop and maintain advanced DAX measures, including time intelligence, virtual tables, and complex filtering logic.
- Refactor and optimize existing DAX to improve performance and accuracy.
- Translate business rules and policy definitions into validated, reusable calculations.
- Document metric definitions and ensure consistency across reports and datasets.
SQL Querying & Analytical Support
- Write and maintain complex SQL queries using joins, CTEs, window functions, and aggregations.
- Validate and reconcile data across multiple systems and sources.
- Partner with data engineering and upstream teams to resolve data quality or integration issues.
- Perform ad hoc analysis to support leadership, planning, and operational decision-making.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with finance, HR, and operational stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver analytical solutions.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into structured and actionable insights.
- Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide guidance on data interpretation, limitations, and appropriate use.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities assigned to support departmental and institutional objectives.
- Participate in meetings, training, documentation, and process improvement efforts as required.
- Support evolving priorities in alignment with organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Analytics, Information Systems, Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience developing analytics or business intelligence solutions.
- Hands-on experience building reports and datasets using Power BI.
- Working knowledge of DAX for calculated measures and business logic.
- Working knowledge of SQL, including joins, aggregations, and basic query optimization.
- Experience working with relational data and structured datasets.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-6+ years of progressive experience in analytics or business intelligence roles.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI semantic modeling, including star schemas and performance optimization.
- Strong mastery of DAX, including time intelligence, virtual tables, and complex filter context management.
- Advanced SQL skills (CTEs, window functions, query tuning across large datasets).
- Experience supporting financial, payroll, budget, or workforce analytics.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Analysis Services, or Direct Lake models.
- Experience implementing or supporting Row-Level Security (RLS) and governed datasets.
- Experience supporting executive-level or enterprise-wide reporting environments.
Salary Range
$80,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
- This position is based on-site in Austin, Texas, with up to 50% remote work (The selected candidate must be located in Texas. Texas residents only)
