The expected salary range for this position is $120,230.00 - $144,797.60. Employees in specific high cost of labor locations in the United States (such as San Francisco, CA and Seattle, WA) may qualify for a geographic differential. We are currently hiring for two Major Gifts Officer positions—one managing a portfolio in North Carolina and the other in the Virginia. Strong preference will be given to candidates who reside within these respective states.
This experienced Major Gifts Officer (MGO) develops, builds, and manages a highly-valuable portfolio of prospective and current donors who are capable of giving at levels of $25K to $1M+ in order to meet Compassion's annual revenue goals. This MGO further strategizes and builds customized campaigns and strategic efforts to further engage high-value constituents with Compassion's ministry objectives. At this career level, she or he generally conducts major, complex revenue generating strategies for large Marketing Development initiatives and may coach and oversee the work of other relationship managers.

Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.

Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.

Serves as a leading relationship manager in a professional fundraising environment with particular emphasis on qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a complex portfolio of highly valuable donors and constituents of Compassion's ministry. Actively advances growth along all product lines and is accountable for achieving revenue goals established by leadership.

Creatively crafts and customizes unique, complex fundraising and cultivation activities/campaigns targeted to high-value donors for the purpose of generating revenue, increasing retention, identifying prospects, and acquiring commitments/sponsorships.

Advocates on behalf of Compassion's ministry of Christian child development to audiences such as current and prospective major donors, constituents, foundations, etc. Develops and executes on strategy to drive engagement and build strong relationships with planned portfolio of constituents through regular personal visits, phone calls, proposals, presentations, and other correspondence.

Sets multi-faceted large scope fundraising forecasts. Sets strategy and timelines for each constituent relationship and qualified prospect in order to achieve fundraising goals. Develops framework for fundraising and stewardship reporting based on both internal use and constituent use.

Serves as key participant and may lead Compassion tours and project visits, meetings, and special events. As appropriate, also includes constituents in visits and events.

Occasionally responsible for various types of speaking engagements in both small and large group settings advocating for Compassion or Children in need.
What do you bring?

Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in fundraising or development.

Proven ability to solicit and close six- and seven-figure gifts from a diverse portfolio of principal and major donors.

Proficient in leveraging technology and data systems (e.g., Salesforce, Tableau) to drive donor engagement, portfolio management, and performance analytics.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; CFRE certification preferred.

Ability to travel up to 50% of normal schedule.
