About the role
Coalition’s Legal and Compliance Department is seeking an experienced and highly motivated E.U. Compliance Specialist, focused on the insurance industry, to join its fast-moving and growing team.
The E.U. Insurance Compliance Specialist will be responsible for working with other legal and compliance professionals in monitoring and ensuring adherence to E.U. & Germany-specific regulatory requirements and procedures throughout Coalition’s organization, as they relate to insurance products and their distribution. The successful candidate will handle a full range of regulatory and compliance matters and serve as a key partner to provide advice to the legal and compliance team, business partners and insurance and corporate functions.
Reporting to Coalition’s Director of Compliance, the candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced and changing environment, with the ability to flex with shifting responsibilities and priorities, and have demonstrated relationship building capabilities, strong operational skills, interpersonal skills and analytical capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance, evaluation, and enhancement of our global risk and framework from an E.U. perspective.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are effective, monitored, proportionate, and adhere to applicable laws and regulations, in particular those that apply to the insurance industry, e.g. IDD (Insurance Distribution Directive), GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) & CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
- Lead local compliance activities, as well as contact with German authorities and regulations (BaFin / VAIT, as well as the IHK / Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce).
- Participate in the development and review of a comprehensive compliance framework for the organization, including policies and procedures relating to compliance with a specific emphasis on general corporate compliance.
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulatory requirements, promoting the organization's commitment to compliance.
- Assess risks and identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability throughout the enterprise.
- Maintain our Risk Register, providing an appropriate challenge to risks, their assessments, and controls, ensuring timely actions are taken to manage all risks within appetite.
- Interpret and communicate regulatory changes to business partners and aid in designing solutions to mitigate risk in support of compliant practices.
- Provide oversight of corrective action plans developed through business unit self-audits and Compliance audits. Tests and validates corrective actions to confirm mitigation plans have been properly implemented.
- Participate in preparing materials and information required in response to internal and external carrier or regulatory audits, and assist in preparing communication of responses for compliance audits.
- Prepare accurate and timely responses to insurance consumer complaints received directly from consumers or regulators.
- Manage workload, prioritize, and elevate issues where appropriate with little direction.
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of compliance experience in the insurance industry or insurtech companies is expected.
- Commercial insurance experience is preferred (professional liability lines and cyber).
- Compliance experience strictly limited to the banking industry or cybersecurity auditing will not be considered sufficient.
- Must be fluent in English and German
- Working knowledge of the E.U. & German regulatory and compliance environment, as they relate to insurance products and their distribution. .
- Demonstrated ability to perform legal research of statutory/regulatory requirements.
- Strong insurance-related compliance experience in risk assessment, testing, and monitoring, including knowledge of business processes and technologies .
- Ability to fully and effectively respond to client requests, following through on projects in a timely manner, and adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.
