The primary functions of this position are to oversee the maintenance, analysis and review of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to ensure effective departmental operations for inpatient and outpatient areas within UI Health.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilizes EPIC computerized master patient index, deficiency analysis and other EMR applications to create update, verify and review patient medical records, record completion and chart corrections.
- Responsible for performing workflow processes and procedures associate with data entry of documentation into EPIC applications and the EMR.
- Analyzes and audits patient medical records to ensure clinical documentation is complete and accurate per established procedures and identifies and documents medical record quality issues to ensure data integrity.
- Responsible for facilitating the department uniformed communication of deficiencies to providers, tracking them to completion, updating EPIC as needed and elevating related issues to leadership as they arise.
- Manages traditional transcription process for providers through Epic and follows up with staff for transcription corrections and amendments through established processes.
- Actively monitors chart corrections, duplicate patient and merges. Reports any surges in the number of patients that needs to be merged to assistant director for further resolution.
- Identifies ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to assistant director, implements and monitors results as appropriates in support of the overall goals of the department.
- Meets productivity, timeliness and quality standards and goals set by the HIM department. Provides data for monitoring productivity and outcomes through maintenance of spreadsheets, databases and other documentation procedures.
- Acts as application SME for the department and trains/supports other team members as directed to ensure continued individual and team advancement.
- Maintains quality standards established by the department for specific tasks.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field.
- Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in health information in a health care facility or program.
- Based on institutional requirements, a current/valid registration and certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and/or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
