About the Role

Head of Platform

Berlin, Germany

This role is part of our Central Platform Team at saas.group.

Profile Overview

We are looking for a high-impact, commercially minded technical leader to head our Platform Team. This is not just a technical role; it is a business-critical position focused on removing friction, improving developer experience, and enabling engineering teams to move faster and smarter.

The role requires a: a strong technical foundation, an analytical mind, and the ability to align and work with stakeholders at all levels - from engineering teams to CEOs.

Your immediate impact in the first 3-6 months will be:

  • Launch a Scorecard System – Create a data-driven framework to measure activities, developer experience, AI adoption, and infrastructure efficiency across brands.
  • Accelerate Engineering Velocity – Identify bottlenecks and roll out high-impact improvements across CI/CD, cloud cost optimization, and AI-driven automation.
  • Drive AI and Automation – Help brands to measure & drive automation and AI adoption in engineering to enhance developer efficiency, optimize workflows, and reduce manual work.
  • Become the Go-To Strategic Partner for cloud Infrastructure– Establish trust with your teams, brand CTOs, and leadership by solving real problems rather than enforcing rigid policies.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Platform team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation while strategically deploying resources to support acquired and portfolio companies.
  • Develop and execute a yearly roadmap for your team that connects strategic goals to day-to-day operations, while managing and optimizing the platform budget, balancing infrastructure costs and tool investments.
  • Champion zero-trust security principles across the platform, ensuring robust identity verification and least-privilege access, leveraging Google Workspace as an IdP.
  • Oversee the integration and optimization of key tools, including AWS, GitHub Enterprise, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring solutions to maximize efficiency and reliability.
  • Partner with acquired brands to address infrastructure challenges, deliver custom automation tools, and advocate best practices while respecting individual company needs.
  • Define and track platform performance through KPIs, dashboards, and data-driven automation, ensuring scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Drive the adoption of open-source solutions to enhance scalability, cost-efficiency, and platform innovation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, finance, and leadership, to align platform initiatives with broader business objectives.

What You bring to the table

  • You have 2-4 years of work experience in a demanding environment (corporate, top-tier consulting, or similar).
  • Top University Degree – A STEM or business degree from a leading university (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent).
  • At heart, you are an entrepreneur with a strong customer-first mindset and an excellent sense for building and managing client relationships.
  • Outstanding Stakeholder Management – The ability to communicate complex topics clearly and align technical and non-technical teams. You’ll work with all acquired companies. Help them to understand their unique needs while maintaining a minimum stack of centralized infrastructure.
  • Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure teams, with a strong ability to mentor, deploy resources strategically, and drive technical excellence.
  • Commercial and Strategic Mindset – an understanding of how platform engineering drives business growth, not just technical efficiency.
  • A track record of managing roadmaps and budgets, balancing cost efficiency, and aligning infrastructure spending with business goals.
  • Deep expertise in platform security, particularly zero-trust implementations, access control, and vulnerability management.
  • Strong technical proficiency in automation,  and monitoring tools.
  • A data-driven mindset with experience defining KPIs, creating dashboards, and using metrics to improve platform scalability and efficiency.
  • Bias for Action – A proactive, ownership-driven approach to problem-solving and execution.
  • Passion for open-source solutions and their role in driving innovation, cost reduction, and scalability.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, able to work closely with leadership, finance, and engineering teams to ensure the platform’s success.
