As a Medical Officer AVMO, you will make a positive impact by:
- You will be responsible for delivery of primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.
- You will form part of a multidisciplinary team working toward the shared purpose of achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members.
- You will play an integral role in assessing Defence personnel for fitness for duty and in the provision of care that will support the health and welling of members pre and post deployments.
- You will be required to provide medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer (CO), Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager and Commanders of units.
- You will be supported by a Team of Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues.
- You may be required to provide the services in either an outpatient setting or inpatient care setting within a ward.
About ADF Health Services
In partnership with Bupa, our ADF Health Services team provides integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel across Australia.
This includes providing defence-ready clinical and support staff across 40+ on-base locations, ensuring that ADF personnel have access to quality on-site medical care.
About Oakey
Oakey Health Centre is located at the Army Aviation Centre (AAC) 3km outside Oakey. It is the training area for Australian Army Aviation and is home to the 126 Squadron (Cougar helicopters) of the Republic of Singapore Air Force. With approximately 500 members, the health centre provides primary medical, aviation medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmaceutical and mental health services. It is also an emergency response to AAC. Health centre staff may be required to work across Cabarlah & Oakey. The standard operating hours of the centre are generally 0700-1630 Monday - Friday (depending on role requirements will determine shift lengths). In this role you will be working Monday and Tuesday.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Current unconditional and unrestricted General registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) OR, Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) OR Vocational Registration.
- Minimum of 2 years' full-time post graduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent), GPT Registrar rotations are counted.
- Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
Please note:
- You must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.
- You don't need to be enlisted in the Defence Force to work as a civilian on-base and your job stays here, even if the Defence personnel you care for are deployed.
