Our talented staff of 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions to our clients from our offices throughout Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Alabama.
MSG is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support permitting, compliance, and groundwater monitoring for livestock and agricultural operations across Ohio and Indiana . This role combines technical office work with field data collection and regulatory coordination, with approximately 50% of time spent on fieldwork. This is a hybrid opportunity, based out of our office in North Canton, OH.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare permit applications (IDEM CFO/CAFO, ODA-DLEP, EPA NPDES)
- Serve as a liaison with IDEM, ODA, and local agencies
- Conduct groundwater monitoring and implement sampling plans
- Perform compliance inspections, reporting, and nutrient application audits
- Support environmental assessments (e.g., hydrogeologic reviews, manure storage, drainage)
- Collect field data using water level meters, augers, and GPS
- Draft technical reports and regulatory correspondence
- Collaborate with engineers on site layout and facility design
- Attend client meetings, site visits, and public hearings as needed
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Engineering, Soil Science, or related field
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in consulting, agriculture, or regulatory work
- Experience with IDEM and ODA permitting
- Knowledge of groundwater monitoring and nutrient/manure management plans
- Ability to interpret site plans and environmental maps
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Agricultural field experience and regulatory familiarity (OAC/ORC) a plus
