About the Role

Title: Entertainment Writer

Location: Sydney NSW 2010 Australia

Job Description:

Company Description

Pedestrian Group, Nine's youth-focused brand, connects with millions of young Australians through diverse content in culture, tech, gaming, fashion, and more. By joining us you will work with and learn from the brightest minds to create ground breaking content that pushes boundaries and enables young Aussies to feel seen, informed, entertained and understood.

Job Description

Your job will be to help create spicy entertainment content for PEDESTRIANTV. You'll be a pop culture obsessive who is plugged into everything entertainment: reality TV, local and international celebrity news, and TikTok creator drama. You ravenously devour everything trending on Netflix, are on a first name basis with Deuxmoi (just kidding… unless?), and are anxiously awaiting Taylor Swift's wedding.

Crucially, this role will largely involve writing entertainment stories for our website on a daily basis, executing the PEDESTRIAN.TV tone while letting your own voice shine through. Excellent writing skills are a must.

You'll be asked to confidently interview A-list celebs both on and off camera, so if appearing on camera and yapping to Margot Robbie gives you night sweats, this might not be the job for you. (And if it's your first time, then don't worry - we'll show you how it's done.)

Day to day you will:

  • Write daily entertainment stories for our website, executing the unique PEDESTRIAN.TV tone.
  • Confidently interview A-list celebrities, both on and off-camera.
  • Work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Pitch and chase down original stories and exclusive scoops.
  • Use analytics to inform and guide editorial decisions.
  • Collaborate with a creative team and contribute to a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be someone able to work independently, knows how to source fact from fiction, and can hit the ground running in our fast-paced yet supportive and collaborative newsroom.

The even more ideal candidate will be someone who can sniff out original stories, chase down scoops, and has an entertainment industry contact list fit to burst.

What you'll bring:

  • Prior experience working the entertainment beat in a newsroom, or equivalent freelancing experience.
  • An encyclopaedic and slightly terrifying knowledge of pop culture.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a distinct, engaging, and hilarious voice.
  • A natural charisma and confidence on camera.
  • The ability to work autonomously and as a team player.
  • A strong understanding of social media trends and platforms like TikTok, X, and Instagram.
  • The ability to confidently source fact from fiction.

If you're keen to join us, send us the following:

  • A cover letter written in your best understanding of P.TV's trademark spicy tone. Go on, give it a red hot crack! The spicier, the better.
  • Your CV (feel free to get creative)
  • Relevant examples of your work (including written and video content, if available)

Additional Information

Our employee benefits include:

We like to think we're a pretty good place to work, particularly for young journos looking to break into the media industry. Some of the perks include:

  • Access to Nine training (we're wholly owned by Nine Entertainment Group, FYI), as well as the chance to learn from some of the best young journos, writers and content creators in the biz.
  • Half day Fridays once a month.
  • The option to WFH 2x days per week.
  • A supportive, no silly questions, all ideas are good ideas type of workplace. If you want to make something happen, we'll figure out how to get you there.
  • A kitchen overflowing with snacks and Coke Zeros, and an office manager very open to snack requests (especially for our Diet Coke fans).
  • An open door company culture. We're all about honesty, not secrets.
  • Regular pub drinks, run clubs, dress up days, and more. Not to sound too like a 2010s start up, but yes, we do have ping pong and Foosball tables, and yes, they're pretty good.
  • An office teeming with some of the most creative people you'll ever meet.
  • Also, a dog friendly office. We're not saying that a cute dog will get you hired, but we're not not saying that, either. (For HR reasons, this is a joke.)

Nine is Australia's largest locally owned media company. Working at Nine, you'll have access to a unique range of experiences and opportunities, helping drive the success of the country's most trusted television, radio, digital and publishing brands.
