Software Engineering Manager
We're seeking an engineering manager to lead our Rider team in our Bikes & Scooters business, delivering exceptional user experiences through our mobile app and innovative membership programs tailored to our users' needs and lifestyles. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to have a positive influence on the future of our cities!
Our engineers are smart, adaptable problem-solvers who move fast and ship code to production continuously. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback, while relying on leadership to boost productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean.
We're looking for a manager who loves staying close to the technology and has experience leading technical teams. You'll manage a team of about 10 engineers from early career to Staff and across backend, mobile and web.

Team Leadership & Development
- Lead talented engineers who love shipping code and solving complex engineering challenges
- Mentor team members' professional and technical growth, helping develop their careers through projects tailored to their skills, personalities, and goals
- Build collaborative, inclusive teams where everyone feels valued and respected
- Provide continuous feedback, address performance issues, and recognize individual contributions
Technical & Strategic Impact
- Create plans for resolving technical and resourcing challenges within your organization
- Balance building sustainable, high-impact projects with maintaining shipping velocity
- Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in code quality, architecture, processes and operations
- Own your team's deliverables, ensuring we ship and operate scalable, high quality products that delight our customers
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with recruiting to hire high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to maintain prioritized backlogs
- Help your team build strong relationships across functions and partner organizations
What You Bring
Leadership Experience
- 2+ years managing software engineering teams
- Proven track record of active mentorship and career guidance
- Experience guiding teams through major technological and organizational transformations (preferred)
Technical Foundation
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong technical background in mobile or server engineering
- Experience architecting, building, and scaling distributed systems
- Experience launching consumer-facing products and iterating through data-driven experimentation
Communication Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across various formats: technical documents, team discussions, and presentations

About Compensation
The expected base pay range for this position in the New York City area is $176,000 - $220,000. Salary ranges vary based on qualifications, experience, and geographic location. This range doesn't include potential equity, bonuses, or the comprehensive benefits package described above. Your recruiter will provide location-specific details during the hiring process.
