Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Test Development unit is currently seeking an Editor II to join our test materials development team. The Editor II will work with groups of volunteer subject matter experts to create and assemble test content used to evaluate health professionals at varying stages of their education and practice.

This role has been designated as hybrid, which means it generally includes duties that must be performed in the office on specified dates, which may occur 2-3 days per month on average. We are open to considering candidates within 50 miles of our Philadelphia, PA (19104) office location.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edit examination questions focusing on clarity, adherence to a designated style guide, and elimination of test flaws.
  • Serve as staff facilitator during test development committee meetings and actively contribute to the process by using knowledge of content and test development methodology.
  • Assemble examination forms, facilitate form review by subject matter experts, and ensure accuracy of final form selections.
  • Manage and update item metadata in internal database as needed.
  • Produce examinations and ancillary materials for web-based delivery, including creation of practice or orientation materials; ensure quality control of all examination materials.
  • Facilitate subject matter expert review of test question pools on a predetermined schedule.
  • Develop assignments for test question writers for new question development.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of examination schedules and ancillary documentation for all aspects of assigned examination programs.
  • Serve as staff facilitator for NBME Item Writing Workshops, leading participants through revision and review exercises.
  • Complete exam question pool maintenance tasks (e.g., coding updates, identification of outdated terminology, text translation, etc.).
  • As necessary, work with subject matter experts to ensure alignment of exam content to assessment objectives; work with manager to revise content outlines as necessary.
  • Provide guidance and feedback for editorial production assistants who are involved in editorial and committee support.

DELIVERABLES

  • Ensure accuracy of exam questions and entry into databases.
  • Assemble and produce high-quality exams for web-based administration, potentially in multiple languages.
  • Meet assigned deadlines and follow best practices and standard procedures.
  • Facilitate productive, well-run committee reviews and accurately record editorial changes.
  • Communicate effectively with team, external stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure subject matter expert assignments accurately reflect the needs of the exam program pool.
  • Provide guidance and feedback for editorial production assistants.
  • Support the values of the NBME.

REQUIREMENTS

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with high capacity for attention to detail
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills
  • Demonstrated skill in use of computer applications (databases and word processing)
  • Ability to organize and budget time
  • Knowledge of standard test development processes desired but not required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desired but not required

Experience

Two or more years of related experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a relevant field.

Compensation we are offering for this position is at $67,160-$83,950/year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
