POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications and Development Specialist works within the Communications and Development (C&D) team at Public Health Solutions (PHS) and will be responsible for advancing PHS’ internal and external communications efforts through strong administrative, writing, and organizational skills.
Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role is responsible for managing day-to-day communications operations—including email and website management, content development, event logistics, and project coordination. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and comfortable managing multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative Support
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Development and Marketing team as needed.
- Schedule and coordinate team meetings, including agenda distribution and note-taking.
- Manage project timelines, track deliverables, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Handle vendor coordination, invoicing, and contract processing.
- Maintain and organize marketing materials, office supplies, and shared team resources.
Communications Support (70%)
- Fulfill communications requests from internal program teams, ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and timely delivery.
- Draft, edit, and proofread content for internal and external audiences, including newsletters, blog posts, website copy, marketing collateral, and social media captions. Support the Communications team in preparing talking points, announcements, and other written materials for leadership.
- Serve as a content producer for the PHS website, update and maintain content in collaboration with internal teams.
- Support C&D team in the creation, editing, proofing of reports and presentations, including Board and Committee slides and foundation/donor needs.
- Create or edit simple visuals for emails, presentations, and web pages using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, and coordinate with external designers for larger creative projects.
- Assist in developing and maintaining templates and systems to streamline communications workflows.
- Ensure all content aligns with brand standards and organizational messaging.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Events Support
- Provide support for external and internal communications and fundraising events, including copywriting, invitations, website content, outreach, and logistics, in collaboration with other PHS teams and consultants.
Development Support (30%)
- Support the Development team in maintaining donor data on Raiser’s Edge, proofing of materials, and distribution of appeal letters, event invites and other materials to PHS’ donors
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or journalism preferred but not required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in marketing, communications, or related field.
- Understanding of CRMs, and basic design tools e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp.
- Good grasp on various marketing platforms, channels, and best practices, including social, digital, and email marketing.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in event planning and logistics preferred.
- Collaborative, proactive, and resourceful with a willingness to learn and problem-solve
- Graphic design skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva are a plus.
