Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $43.27 - $52.40.

In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.

The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Status: Full Time- 100% REMOTE

In this REMOTE role, the Certified Coder will assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for complex patient medical records using ICD-10 coding guidelines and conventions for establishment of diagnoses and procedures.

Coded data is used for reimbursements, data retrieval, education, research, quality measures, evaluation of medical services, assessment of clinical care and case-mix analysis.  The role will extract pertinent data from patient records and assign ICD-10 and CPT codes, perform physician queries and ensure that patient bills are produced timely and accurately.

GENERAL ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews inpatient and outpatient records to identify the appropriate principal diagnosis and procedures and applicable secondary diagnosis and procedures.

  • Sequences ICD/CPT codes according to HSS, CMS, ICD-10, CPT assistant, and coding clinic guidelines.

  • Meets established department productivity and accuracy standards for coding inpatient, AMS, professional fee and outpatient records.

  • Contact's providers compliantly utilizing the query process in order to clarify a diagnosis or obtain more specific documentation regarding patients’ treatment.

  • Enters ICD-10 and CPT codes and updates patients’ information as needed into hospital financial system or computerized department abstracting system which can be used reliably for hospital reimbursement, research, education, and strategic planning.

  • Reports information timely and accurately to New York State DOH registries for patients meeting requirements to oncology (Tumor Registry), Alzheimer's and Congenital Malformations as needed.

  • Ensures any required coding changes or corrections from 2nd level reviews are completed timely and accurately.

  • Maintains or obtains CPC or CCS certification within expected timeframe per established department guidelines.

  • Knowledge of and ability to address National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Local Coverage determinations (LCD) edits

  • Communicates with physicians and providers to clarify information via the physician query process

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office products, Electronic Health Records, Document Imaging Systems, and office equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory tests. Knowledge / Basic Understanding of State and Federal Guidelines, Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.

SKILLS:

ABILITY TO:

Effectively uses computer software and technology as required by the organization including Microsoft Word and Excel. Uses phone system and other required tools.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.

Fast paced home and/or office-based work environment with minimal distractions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires working predominantly in a sedentary manner there are times that will require some walking, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, carrying and pushing of supplies and medical records.
