Billing Representative – Legal Correspondence Team
Location: Remote
Job Type: Full-Time
Length of Contract: 6+ months
Hours: Mon - Fri 8:00am-5:00pm
Pay Rate: Depends on experience
About the Role
As a Billing Representative on our Legal Correspondence Team, you will play a critical role in managing and processing legal requests related to patient billing records. This includes handling subpoenas and attorney correspondence with precision and confidentiality. You’ll ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and organizational standards while delivering exceptional accuracy and service.
What You’ll Do
- Review, process, and respond to subpoenas, attorney correspondence, and requests for patient billing records promptly and accurately.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws (including HIPAA) and organizational policies for releasing patient information.
- Validate the authenticity and completeness of legal documents before fulfilling requests.
- Collaborate with internal teams to retrieve and compile accurate billing records and supporting documentation.
- Maintain detailed logs of all requests, correspondence, and released information for audit and tracking purposes.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys, legal representatives, and external parties to clarify requests or provide status updates.
- Protect sensitive patient information and uphold confidentiality standards at all times.
- Escalate complex or unclear requests to leadership or legal counsel for resolution.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay informed on legal and regulatory changes impacting billing record release.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to execute processes efficiently while maintaining high quality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience in medical billing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Epic systems or prior Epic experience.
- Familiarity with legal documentation and healthcare compliance standards.
