Title: Accounting Specialist, Hennepin County, Accounting Division
Location: Minneapolis United States
Job Description:
Hennepin County District Court is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Specialist. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for accounting work involving the coordination, preparation, and maintenance of court bookkeeping and financial records, as well as providing complex financial procedural information.
This position is part of the Accounting Division and reports to the Accounts Receivable Supervisor. The Accounting Division is located on the 14th floor of the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487. Typical hours for this position will be 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. This position is hybrid, working a combination of remote and onsite, based on business needs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
-
Review and process business expense reimbursements, payroll, and payments according to organizational policy and procedure

Accurately review and complete in a timely manner all financials and reports checking for statutory compliance, and in accordance with state court policies and procedures

Review and process restitution payment reports and process weekly disbursements

Review, process, and audit tuition reimbursement requests according to state policy and procedure

Provide excellent customer service by assisting and communicating with internal and external customers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner in -person, over the phone, or through electronic means

Communicate and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments, financial processing, and other receivable duties are completed efficiently and accurately
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience
A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered for this position. A High School Degree or equivalent is required.
Examples of qualifying education and experience include but are not limited to:

High School degree or equivalent with at least 3 years of accounting or finance work experience
OR
-
An associate’s degree in accounting or related business field with at least 2 years of accounting or finance work experience
OR
-
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field with at least 1 year of accounting or finance work experience
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and computerized accounting systems
-
Extensive, advanced Microsoft Excel skills pertaining to accounting functions and sufficient knowledge of Excel's capabilities to identify and implement accounting process improvements
-
Ability to read and interpret policy language and statutes
-
Strong attention to detail and adept problem-solving skills to identify errors in policy compliance and initiate corrective action
-
Ability to make recommendations for process improvements
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in public sector accounting or bookkeeping
-
Experience in receivables or business expense reimbursement processing
-
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint
-
Experience with MNCIS (Minnesota Court Information Software) software
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
-
The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $25.50 per hour or higher, depending on qualifications. The full salary range for this position is $25.50 - $38.20 per hour. ($53,244 – $79,762 annually.) This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of Minnesota employee benefits

This position is an AFSCME-represented position and is classified as an Accounting Specialist. This position is posted for bidding, internal, and external applications simultaneously, and will be filled in accordance with the AFSCME contract
