Hiring Range:

$28.03 - $33.65 per hour; Compensation will be based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.

A. POSITION PURPOSE

The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a Videographer/Editor for the archive recording of department dance productions. The purpose of this role is to provide professional video editing and shooting support for the Gallery and Images Dance Concerts.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Video Production and Shooting

  • Coordinates and shoots dance videos of performances as necessary for student and faculty choreographers.

  • Conducts all scheduled video shoots as arranged to ensure timely capture of performance material.

2. Creative Editing and Film Development

  • Collaborates with student and faculty choreographers to make creative choices regarding the editing of dance material into a final dance film.

  • Creates and provides a final video file from filmed and provided content of original modern dances for presentation in departmental dance concerts, including Choreographers' Gallery and Images.

3. Instructional and Administrative Duties

  • Fulfills other filming or editing duties as assigned by Directors.

4. Other duties as assigned.

  • May be invited to attend department meetings or activities.

C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

Provides creative and technical direction to student choreographers during the editing and shooting process.

D. GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Identifies and determines creative editing choices to improve the quality of dance films.

  • Maintains contact with student and faculty choreographers to solicit feedback for improved creative work.

  • Maximizes productivity through the use of video editing tools and software.

  • Informs the Department Chair or production Director of project status and progress.

  • Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of final video files for scheduled concert dates.

E. QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge

  • Specialized knowledge of video editing techniques and software.

  • Understanding of creative film choices within a Rehearsal and Performance context.

  • Knowledge of university-level video production standards.

2. Skills

  • Professional video editing skills.

  • Video shooting and cinematography skills, specifically for dance performances.

  • Strong collaborative and communication skills for working with faculty and students.

3. Abilities

  • Ability to facilitate creative work and translate choreographic vision into film.

  • Ability to work effectively within a liberal arts context.

  • Ability to manage approximately 85 hours of effort across a 10 week quarter, including delivery of final product.

4. Education

  • Bachelor’s degree suitable for a videographer position, preferred.

5. Years of Experience

  • 3 years professional experience in video editing in professional and/or university setting, required.

F. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal for video editing.

  • May be required to shoot video of indoor or outdoor performances, which may involve standing or moving with equipment.

  • May be required to travel to the Music and Dance Facility or other campus locations for shoots and meetings.

G. WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Typical office or editing suite environment.

  • Outdoor environments for socially distanced performance video shoots.

  • Collaborative university setting with frequent interactions with students and faculty choreographers.
