About the Role
Title: Intermediate Software Engineer
Location: Ottawa (HQ), Toronto, and Montreal, Canada
Work Type: Remote, Full Time
Department: Engineering
Job Description:
At Fellow, we’re on a mission to give every employee their own AI-powered Chief of Staff, an assistant that understands your meeting discussions, surfaces key insights, answers questions, and takes action so you can focus on what matters most.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our fast-paced Engineering team. You’ll build and ship end-to-end features, collaborate closely with Product and Design, use AI-powered developer tools, and ensure every release improves how teams collaborate inside Fellow.
Why Fellow?
Fellow is a remote-first, Series A startup backed by Craft Ventures, iNovia, and Felicis. Our founders previously built Fluidware (acquired by SurveyMonkey), and we’re now helping the world’s best teams—from Shopify, HubSpot, and Warner Media, to startups across the globe—make meetings more productive with the power of AI.
About the Role
- Engineering Excellence: Build and maintain features end-to-end with React / TypeScript, Django / Python, and GraphQL / Relay, writing clean, performant, and maintainable code.
- AI Tooling Advocate: Champion the use of AI tools, from quick prototyping to test generation, to strengthen our engineering practices.
- Outcome-Oriented Delivery: Focus on work that meaningfully moves product and business metrics, translating requirements into user impact, not just output.
- Collaborative Development: Partner closely with Product, Design, and QA to turn concepts into polished experiences that delight users.
- Quality & Testing: Contribute to our CI pipeline by writing unit, integration, and regression tests, and take part in thoughtful code reviews to keep quality high.
- Technical Specifications: Draft and refine tech specs, break work into deliverable pieces, and define success metrics to ensure every release delivers impact.
- Continuous Improvement: Introduce new tools, libraries, and best practices that boost developer productivity and code quality, while mentoring teammates along the way.
About You
You might be a great fit if you:
- Have 3+ years of full-stack or backend development experience, ideally in high-growth product environments.
- Thrive in fast-paced teams where speed and impact go hand-in-hand.
- Are excited about AI and tools like Cursor to supercharge your productivity.
- Love owning features end-to-end—from writing technical specs to monitoring post-release impact.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate well across disciplines.
- Have worked in remote environments and enjoy asynchronous collaboration.
Our Engineering Culture
On the Engineering team at Fellow we value rapid delivery, craftsmanship, and continuous learning. We ship multiple times per week, and iterate quickly while keeping reliability and polish front-of-mind. We lean on AI tools and rigorous code review to raise the bar, share knowledge through book clubs and lunch-and-learns, and unleash big ideas at our twice-yearly hackathons. Above all, we collaborate openly, give fast feedback, and celebrate wins as a team.
Work Where You Work Best
We’re a remote-first team across Canada with hubs in Ottawa (HQ), Toronto, and Montreal. Whether you want to collaborate in person or work from home, the choice is yours.
Compensation
For this role, the expected salary range is $110k to $150k CAD annually depending on experience, skills, and role scope.
