Netdata

Title: Technical Writer-Educator, Education

  • Location: United States – Remote

We’re looking for a technical writer/educator to join our growing education team, which delivers the knowledge, training, and skills that turns anyone into an infrastructure monitoring expert. Even before we got our first round of funding, we envisioned a Netdata educational platform of courses, certifications, and quizzes. This role will play a major part in designing an initial curriculum and developing content.

We’re a well-funded company building the future of distributed systems health monitoring and performance troubleshooting. We’re highly technical and fully remote, working across 20 time zones around the globe. Help us better communicate how Netdata is the most advanced real-time health monitoring and performance troubleshooting solution for servers, applications, containers, and IoT devices in the world!

As a member of the education team, you’ll also play a role in Netdata’s Developer Relations efforts, which works in parallel with product managers and UI/UX designers to tell the story of how developers and sysadmins use Netdata in their daily work to make smarter, metrics-driven decisions about their mission-critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design a curriculum for courses related to infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting, with the goal of offering either a cohort-based “learn in public” path or an LMS-based certification course.
  • Create course content in written and video form, including screen recordings, voiceovers, and on-camera appearances as a course instructor.
  • Work closely with Product and Developer Relations stakeholders to gather the domain expertise necessary to design and create advanced-level courses in infrastructure monitoring.
  • Create, apply, and monitor key performance indicators that define the success of Netdata’s educational platform.
  • Write blog posts announcing new features and explaining Netdata’s capabilities.
  • Contribute to code reviews on Netdata’s open-source GitHub repository.

Why join Netdata

  • We are a team of industry veterans and senior engineers that prioritize performance and ease of use over anything else.
  • We embrace remote work and great work-life balance.
  • We are solving hard problems that affect thousands of organizations worldwide.
  • We are deeply committed to Open Source and love our community.
  • We deeply care about system performance.

When you join Netdata, you can expect

  • A competitive salary.
  • A generous stock plan.
  • To join a venture-backed startup working with some of the most sophisticated investors of Silicon Valley.
  • To be part of our world-class team and interact with an amazing community.
  • To see first-hand how to grow and succeed in an engineering-first, open source-based company.
  • To find a culture that rewards doers.

Netdata is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to providing an inclusive work environment free of discrimination and harassment for everyone, regardless of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, military service or other non-merit factor.

Job requirements

Required experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in creating educational material for software products. This could include product documentation, text tutorials, or videos.
  • Familiarity with course/curriculum design, such as creating a certification path for completing a multi-part course on using a software product.
  • Experience with one or more aspects of video production. We’ll get you set up with the equipment you need, but we’re looking for production self-starters.
  • Familiarity with writing content in Markdown, and using Git and GitHub for both version control and project management.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You won’t be doing any development work, but we’re a “docs as code” company and most of our work in developer-centric environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote-first work environment.

Preferred experience

  • An understanding of the current landscape of LMS products.
  • Familiarity with the infrastructure monitoring landscape, jargon, and patterns.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes and other container orchestration concepts.
  • Previous writing on edge/IoT computing concepts, tooling, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with creating and using testing/virtualization environments to test different configurations and integrations quickly.
  • Previous work with an open-source project.
