Our aspiration is to have diverse teams at every level of the company, and we seek candidates who bring unique personal experiences, curiosity and an eagerness to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.

AT A GLANCE

Lonely Planet is looking for a hands-on Senior Designer to join our evolving Illustrated and Gift print publishing team. You will collaborate, direct, and advise freelance designers, and ensure the Illustrated and Gift list is dynamic, distinctive, and on-brand with Lonely Planet. As well as overseeing the design for the Illustrated and Gift list and managing freelance designers, this is a small team so you will also work on some of the books and products themselves. You’re a creative thinker, have a passion for beautifully designed books, and know how to marry inspirational content with functional information design to bring excitement to and expand upon our travel-inspired nonfiction trade list.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with our print publishing team and hire and manage freelance designers to create best-in-class book designs that inspire, guide, and excite travel lovers of all kinds from around the world.
  • Help give the Illustrated and Gift list a more lifestyle-friendly style by giving each book an individual look and feel while still fitting under the Lonely Planet brand.
  • Present and share work with cross-functional teams while clearly communicating design rationale and importance to the reader.
  • Expand our current design style by creating unique designs specifically catered to the category, content, and consumer of each product, and according to design trends.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in illustrated and nonfiction trade book design and paper product design.
  • Solid background in Adobe Creative Cloud and color print production.
  • Ability to use Adobe InDesign style sheets to create consistent templates.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret market trends and other external sources to identify design and product opportunities.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, set expectations and work individually and/or collaboratively across teams.
  • Experience in hiring freelance designers and ideally your own network of freelancers to tap into.
  • A love for what you do and the ability to have fun and bring a sense of humor to a team of hardworking and passionate people.
  • Passion for travel.

Compensation

  • Cash Compensation Range: $85,000 – $156,250*
  • *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
  • Enrollment in Red Ventures Long Term Incentive Plan (Equity)

Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements.
