We are looking for a mid-to-senior level Ruby on Rails software developer to work on our platform, implementing new features, building integrations to other systems, maintaining existing code, helping with customer support and help expand the capabilities of our platform.

Manufacturing is a tough business and the companies that make the products we all use daily need good tools to protect their businesses and protect their customers.

Wherefour’s cloud-based and mobile-friendly ERP software makes it easier for food, beverage and natural product companies (think packaged food and beverages, beauty products and cosmetics, cannabis, nutritional supplements, pet food, etc.) to track and lot code their ingredients, monitor the costs of each production batch, and keep track of which customers got which products. We provide a modern ERP for today’s manufacturers.

We’re a small but globally-focused and growing company with a distributed workforce, currently covering all the time zones in the U.S. We have customers in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia/New Zealand and South America.

Manufacturing, inventory control and traceability/compliance present some very complex logic challenges, so our mission is to take the “difficult” and break it down into a simple and elegant experience for our customers.

You will need solid skills with Ruby on Rails 5, Postgres, Bootstrap and using sprinklings of Vue.js where needed. We host the app on Heroku and use AWS S3 for customer file uploads.

We keep gems to a minimum but do rely on: Stripe, Devise, Pundit, Shrine, Sidekiq, Minitest and Webpacker. There is a steady stream of complex programming and logic puzzles for us to solve, and you will have a strong voice in the evolution of our app.

Design is a key differentiator for our app, so we need you to have a “decent-to-good” design aesthetic. You don’t need to actually be a designer, but we are looking for the types of developer who thinks like us — great design and user experience determine how a feature is built. Design is not an afterthought.

Ideally, you’ve worked on a SaaS application and are familiar with manufacturing, warehousing, and inventory control concepts and have prior experience in the food & beverage, beauty products or pharmaceutical industries.

Your work will be done remotely, from a home office of your choice.

As a young company, this is a key hire for us. You will be working directly with the founder and sales/support teams. As we grow and your comfort with our app grows, we intend your responsibilities to grow as well.

The position is full-time with benefits, but we’ll start off as a 1099 contractor for the first 3 months to make sure we like working together.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3+ years software development experience, ideally on a SaaS or manufacturing related application.
  • Demonstrable skills in Ruby, using the Ruby on Rails framework.
  • Self starter, thinks like an owner and cares about the end result.
  • Someone who takes responsibility for building solutions that solve customer pain and are easy to use.
  • Comfortable working in a lean organization and owning more than just the code (some level of specifications, UI and testing).
  • Collaborative, works well in distributed teams.
