QA Engineer




CareMessage is a social enterprise dedicated to using mobile technology to improve healthcare outcomes for underserved patient populations in the United States. Since launching our patient engagement product in 2013, we have grown to work with over 200 healthcare organizations across the United States and have reached over 2 million lives. Our web-based platform allows healthcare providers to reduce no-shows, increase attendance to preventive care screenings, and improve chronic disease management- all via simple “nudges” sent through text message.

Who we are looking for…

CareMessage is looking for a QA Automation Engineer to help with manual and automated quality assurance of the CareMessage web application and API. You will be responsible for entire features and will be a full-time member of the CareMessage Engineering team. Our engineering team follows agile principles in a test-driven development process. We are a remote first team that values open collaboration and shared ownership.

Within 1 month, you will…

  • Understand the engineering team structure and follow the development process
  • Learn CareMessage’s coding standards and testing best practices
  • Complete an in-depth walk-through of all features your team owns and develop working familiarity with their functionality

Within 2 months, you will…

  • Begin to develop a good understanding of all product features, and the interactions between features and different user types
  • Develop an understanding of our testing best practices and begin to follow them while doing manual QA and writing automation regularly
  • Develop a working relationship with other QA team members and learn from their guidance and mentorship

Within 3 months, you will…

  • Be comfortable handling manual QA and writing automated tests for new features on your own
  • Begin developing in-depth knowledge of all team-owned features. Possess a broad understanding of all product features and their use


  • Design, write and execute automated and manual test plans for product features, ensuring optimal test coverage
  • Collaborate with engineering, other QA engineers, and product team to ensure we provide a high-quality user experience for clinic staff across our apps and ensure our product scales as our user base grows
  • Reflect on and suggest improvements to existing QA processes to ensure team efficiency


  • 2+ years of professional experience writing automated tests in JavaScript and related tools such as Selenium, Protractor (for AngularJS) – JavaScript/Protractor experience preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with version control (GitHub), bug tracking (JIRA) and test case management (TestRail)
  • Ability to create well-written test cases and bug reports describing functionality
  • Experience testing APIs using tools like Postman, Paw or curl
  • Experience with relational databases – able to create, delete and query SQL databases with simple queries and understand the output
  • Familiarity with the *NIX command line – able to install software, run application commands, inspect output, manipulate files and read application logs
