What We Are Looking For

This position is the academic unit leader for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program at NCU. This individual has the responsibility (1) for the coordination of the counseling program, (2) responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit, (3) providing input and making recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the budget, and (4) providing year-round leadership to the operation of the program. This position will receive release time from faculty member responsibilities to administer the program. The responsibilities of this position are consistent with the required responsibilities of program director as outlined by CACREP standards. The Program Director will support the faculty hiring process, address student and faculty concerns, and facilitate program improvement. The Program Director is responsible to work directly with the program faculty to ensure the curriculum maintains a high standard in the field of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and the assessment plan ensures a continuous improvement process. The Program Director leads and overseeing the CACREP accreditation process, including, but not limited to coordinating the development of a self-study, overseeing the site visit, and responding to any follow-up requests by CACREP. The Program Director is the main point of contact for all CACREP accreditation related matters.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and manage the Clinical Mental Health program following CACREP standards.
  • Assist and support daily activities related to the Clinical Mental Health program, including working with program faculty, administration, staff, program advisors, and/or other team members.
  • Work with program faculty to develop, revise, and implement goals and strategies for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program that are consistent with CACREP standards.
  • Participate in the development and managing a quality assessment process that is consistent with CACREP standards
  • Oversees the applicant evaluation process, including review of applications and conducting applicant interviews in collaboration with other Clinical Mental Health Counseling program faculty to make admissions decisions
  • Participate in the hiring process for program faculty and the Clinical Director for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
  • Works closely with the Clinical Director to build and oversee a robust clinical experience for students.
  • Provides training in practicum, internship, and program issues for Academic Advisors, Enrollment Advisors, and other University staff as needed
  • Responds to student questions and concerns promoted beyond the faculty and Academic Advisor level
  • Serves as CACREP Liaison and pursues and maintains CACREP accreditation for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program
  • Works with program faculty to establish measurable program outcomes, review compliance with accreditation standards, identify program strengths and challenges, and design and implement methods of addressing identified challenges
  • Develops and follows a strategic planning cycle for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program
  • Works with the Marketing Department in the preparation of informational materials, events, and other marketing efforts related to promoting the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to ensure that all literature, exhibiting, marketing, etc. is accurate and aligned with strategic planning, values, etc.
  • Maintains professional development through membership and participation with state, regional, and national associations, presentations at professional conferences, and continued involvement in academic and scholarly efforts
  • Maintains licensure/certification in the field of Clinical Mental Health Counseling
  • Participates as a member of the leadership team for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Participates in University committees and completes additional assignments at the discretion of the Dean, the Provost, and the President, as needed
  • Promotes academic excellence and diversity in curriculum and faculty and student recruitment
  • Promotes a graduate culture of scholarship, teaching, service, and practice
  • Teaches courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program
  • Completes all required professional development activities as defined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Clinical Mental Health educational culture in an online environment.
  • Knowledge of CACREP accreditation process.
  • Ability to apply strategic and program planning, program and curriculum planning, development, and evaluation, technology implementation.
  • Ability to organize and direct work efforts and manage several competing priorities.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, capability to receive and give direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to communicate online including e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing and other technology based on communication media.
  • Ability to make presentations and represent the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Clinical Mental Health program in various media when called upon.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and other applications in the Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree from a Counselor Education and Supervision program [CACREP accredited] from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Licensed as an LPC preferred.
  • Experience with the online delivery of higher education and associated support systems.
  • Experience with the CACREP accreditation process required.
  • Demonstrated teaching and service record in higher education.
  • Experience supervising professional faculty and staff, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating daily.
  • Experience with program development and evaluation required.
  • Experience with curriculum development required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a team leader.
  • Ability to work collegially and effectively with all necessary constituents (students, faculty, administration, leadership).
  • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred
  • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a remote, home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.
