What you will be doing

AmerisourceBergen is looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced Product Design Lead to join our growing product design team and lead the next iteration of our design system. Under the direction of the Director of User-Centered Design this role is responsible for the vision, build out and ongoing operations of our design system that enables our product teams to rapidly design and build a consistent user experience and interface across the enterprise by providing: components, frameworks, documentation and tooling.

The Product Design Lead will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of our design system and drive implementation of our brand in our products
  • Own the design system roadmap for the enterprise
  • Drive the evolution of our visual language in coordination with our design leaders
  • Establish and promote values, principles, and best practices
  • Introduce, maintain, and advance standard tools and processes that enable repeatable and scalable success
  • Create a focal point in the enterprise for design, a common design language, scalable design systems and libraries
  • Support and participate in the community of practice that facilitates collaboration for prospective, new and seasoned UCD practitioners

  • Be an expert communicator who builds strong relationships and partnerships focusing on collaboration, building consensus and driving design through influence
  • Be an analytical thinker, with a desire and ability to develop and document a deep understanding of the organization’s needs and evolve the UCD practice across product and non-product landscapes
  • Manage, mentor, coach, and pair with all levels of roles within the UCD job family to support their development and continuous progress
  • Support the User-Centered Design Center of Competence build out and champions the sustainability of best practices for Product Design
  • Manage implementation of the design system across the product ecosystem
  • Design and define interaction patterns through components, documentation, and prototypes
  • Work with developers to maintain and create new components for our library
  • Directly partner with and support product designers in utilizing the design system
  • Curate new patterns from design team suggestions and be the gatekeeper for additions
  • Participate in user research and testing as needed to ensure usability and product consistency
  • Create work that scales and flexes across a variety of audiences, abilities, devices, and platforms
  • Specify and maintain our core principles in visual style, typography, spacing, motion, and interaction models
  • Reinforce consistency and coherence across our design system, and identify areas for improvements
  • Build and maintain documentation for the design system that enables designers and developers to use the design system
  • Full time Remote work available


What your background should look like (minimum qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI) or equivalent professional experience is required. 8+ years experience in digital product design for both web and mobile platforms. Have experience in designing and managing design systems for both consumer facing and enterprise facing products. Have experience working on complex enterprise software and consumer software; working across multiple devices including web app, android, and iOS. Experience working in a mixed methodology environment (waterfall and agile). Experience designing graphic user interfaces for complex applications. Strong product design strategy skills in areas of consumer/user research and analysis, personas and customer journeys, design thinking, ideation and brainstorming techniques, sketching, prototyping, and concept validation. Expert ability to understand & create product strategies, journey maps, user-flows, and content structure. Advanced experience leading, coaching, and mentoring product design teams. Knowledge of how HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other web languages impact design process and development. Excellent presentation, communication, documentation and organization skills.

  • Skilled at communicating verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
  • Thought leader and Change agent willing to challenge norms and grow peers’ thinking
  • Proactive self-starter; assertive and able to ensure that Product Design principles are adhered to
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to quickly re-prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Analytical mindset and creativity to balance detailed problem solving with ‘big picture’ strategic view
