Halfaker has an opening for a Principal Technical Writer to join our talented, dynamic team. The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Create and coordinate creation of technical and non-technical written content and diagrams for contract deliverables and project documents
  • Manage content creation across multiple documents continuously with competing deadlines
  • Perform quality reviews and peer reviews across technical and non-technical documents and evaluate document quality based on accuracy, substance, and quality of written content
  • Manage and mentor junior writers and/or PMO support coordinators
  • Collaborate with and “interview” technical SMEs and domain experts to create initial content and validate content for technical documentation
  • Follow client-required templates and content checklist requirements across required project documents
  • Understand client and Halfaker style guides and know which documents to apply which style guide to develop
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Documents to standardize the approach that the team uses to create agendas, meeting minutes, and incrementally create, validate, update, and review document content
  • Integrate SOPs with existing Halfaker document quality standards and processes as well as client requirements for client-facing draft reviews, approval cadence, and signature acquisition processes

Required Skills

  • Ability to possess and apply expertise on multiple work assignments which are broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments
  • Ability to plan and lead major technical and non-technical writing assignments
  • Ability to evaluate performance results and recommend major changes affecting short-term project growth and success
  • Excellent formal business writing skills
  • Ability to collect information and synthesize it into comprehensive and logically structured narrative
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in meeting with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation.
  • Experience in explaining in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline
    • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • 10 years of experience
