Principal Site Reliability Engineer – Edge Systems

The Edge Systems team is driving the evolution of the edge platform at Fastly. We are looking for a Principal SRE to collaborate with other Engineers on improving the efficiency, stability, and security of the stack. This role will report directly to the Sr. Director of Foundation Engineering. Daily work will focus on Edge Engineering, Compute Systems, Security, and Developer Productivity team needs to deliver solutions for complex integration issues.

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll provide support to Edge Engineering teams for testing and integrating new services to the edge
  • You’ll collaborate with teams to define interfaces between their systems and edge services
  • You’ll build tools to simplify the operation of edge caches
  • You’ll drive the effort to redesign the edge hosting model (containers, process isolation, etc)
  • You’ll mentor and train others on best practices for applications on Edge hosts

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years Linux experience
  • 8+ years network and traffic management experience
  • 5+ years Chef or other Configuration Management experience
  • Experience with troubleshooting and designing distributed systems
  • Large scale internet infrastructure experience

We value a variety of voices, so this is not a laundry list. It would be an added bonus if you have experience in ANY of these:

  • GoLang and Rust language experience
  • Varnish and WASM experience
  • Containers and related Linux resource management technologies (namespaces, seccomp, cgroups)
