Overview

SUMMARY

Frontier’s Safe Processing in Cooperative Enterprise (SPICE) project funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) intends to support the training of farmers, secondary processing facility staff, and a spice farmer cooperative’s leadership and management, as well as provide the processing equipment, which will facilitate export of value-added, food safe spices from Sri Lanka which cannot be grown in the US.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Frontier seeks legal counsel to review Frontier’s existing legal structuring position documents from the context of Sri Lankan law and regulations. The set of existing legal structuring position documents include:

  • Shareholding and debt structure to maximize tax efficiencies and minimize risk.
  • Recommendations on structure of debt and equity agreements.

The Legal Review consultant will review aforementioned legal structuring position documents to ensure they comply with Sri Lankan legal and regulatory standards and provide recommendations for what to change, for any draft documents / positions that are out of said compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.

Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of spice processing and needs to cover the resources and utilities of an operating spice facility. Must be able to communicate confidently in English, both written and spoken. Experience in training groups with the ability to measure / verify understanding and evaluate knowledge at various stages. Must be capable of meeting timelines with good time management skills.

EEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • J.D. and admission to bar in at least one US State.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret such items as highly detailed professional, scientific, and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from both inside and outside the company. Ability to write speeches, articles, or memo using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to such groups as top management, boards of directors, or the general public.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to comprehend the most complex financial principles. Ability to use a computer to create highly customized spreadsheets, charts and reports, presentations, and interpret data.

  • Qualifications to practice law in Sri Lanka
  • Expertise in global corporate contracts
