APIC is seeking grant writers that will hit the ground running and achieve results. We are looking for savvy and effective professionals with strong project management skills that can develop, manage, and submit grant proposals and responses to Requests for Proposal (RFP) for programmatic funding. Grant writers will research funding opportunities and prepare, write, and submit applications with a focus on infection prevention and control. This position requires individuals who understand and are committed to APIC’s mission to advance the science and practice of infection prevention and control.

Grant writers are expected to perform the duties and responsibilities with exceptional attention to detail, and solve problems effectively, efficiently, and creatively. Grant writers will utilize sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality. This position may involve interaction with members, vendors, and APIC staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Study and understand the mission, history, structure, objectives, and programs of the organization.
  • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
  • As directed by APIC, prepares proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information and supporting documentation, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
  • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.
  • Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal.
  • Enters and monitors tracking data.
  • Coordinates requirements with APIC contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings.
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information (e.g., APIC staff and subject matter experts), coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
  • Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.
  • Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization capabilities and credentials.
  • Informs APIC of all relevant requirements, laws, and regulations (eligibility, timeline, type and amount of match, allowable expenditures, etc.).
  • Ensures quality, accuracy, and completeness of all submitted grant proposals (well researched, well-written, well-documented, with a well-developed budget).
  • Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.
  • Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers.
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.
  • Submits applications to granting agency in a timely manner, meeting all agency guidelines/requirements, and complying with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills required for the position;


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in identifying, applying for, and receiving grants from public and private sources.
  • Experience writing grants for healthcare organizations is preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent research, analysis, and reporting skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proofreading and editing skills are essential.
  • Exceptional organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, flexible, able to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to assess situations to determine importance, urgency, and risks and makes clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Self-management sets well-defined and realistic goals; takes initiative, monitors progress, and is motivated to achieve; manages own time and is able to successfully juggle multiple and/or competing priorities in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Results oriented ability to prioritize and work at fast pace and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of healthcare and/or public health is preferred.
