Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager is responsible for executing our business strategy at the downstream customer level, enabling customer success through identifying, developing, and securing new specifications for Eastman offerings in downstream applications. Responsible for collaborating with Account Managers as potential sales opportunities are being won to ensure a seamless transition for ongoing success of specified business. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the way Eastman strategically develops its business in the semiconductor industry, placing you at the forefront of this innovative initiative. Approximately 50%+ travel is required for this role.

This full-time, remote position is home-office based, ideally in the following locations: East Coast or the Midwest. Reporting to the North America Sales Manager, this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop new business for our circular offerings in downstream applications.

Responsibilities

Business Strategy Execution

  • Translate Eastman's semiconductor product strategy into downstream account plans and new projects aligned to growth objectives, ensuring alignment with segment-level commercial priorities and multi-year growth targets.
  • Generate target accounts and opportunities by mapping downstream process steps, identifying white space across emerging technology nodes, application areas, and geographic markets.

Customer Discovery & Positioning

  • Engage potential customers at different value chain functions — including R&D, process engineering, and procurement leadership — to understand unmet needs, material development requirements, and replacement drivers.
  • Promote Eastman's semiconductor product portfolio with a clear technical and economic value proposition approach, positioning offerings within the context of each customer's technology roadmap and strategic priorities.

Qualification & Specification Management

  • Own and steward customer qualification programs end to end: sample programs, pilot trials, metrology requirements, and approval processes, serving as the primary internal point of accountability for qualification outcomes.
  • Coordinate internal R&D, analytical labs, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and supply chain functions to meet semiconductor-grade specifications, driving accountability across functions without direct line authority and managing escalations for at-risk programs.

Additional Responsibilities

Cross‑functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Account Managers, Technical Service, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth contract execution, supply continuity, and escalation handling post-specification, resolving competing priorities across organizational boundaries as required.
  • Utilize Salesforce Opportunity Management to maintain accurate and up-to-date tracking of commercial milestones at all stages of the qualification and sales cycle, ensuring pipeline data integrity across the broader commercial team.

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Maintain a deep understanding of market and industry trends, competitor offerings, and customer-specific qualification timelines, synthesizing insights into strategic recommendations that inform portfolio prioritization and business planning.
  • Translate market insight into product positioning strategies, prioritization of specifications, and account-level win strategies that reflect both near-term commercial needs and longer-term competitive positioning.

Relationship Building & Influence

  • Build credibility with cross-functional stakeholders beyond procurement, cultivating senior-level relationships that position Eastman as a strategic materials partner within the semiconductor ecosystem.
  • Represent Eastman at technical workshops, industry conferences, and customer project reviews, contributing to Eastman's profile and influence within the broader semiconductor materials community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related engineering field required. Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of advanced sales/business development in specialty chemicals, process chemicals, or semiconductor materials with demonstrable experience in selling into fabs, OSATs, packaging/test houses or semiconductor materials suppliers. Experience with semiconductor chemistries or feedstocks is a strong plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of markets and customers
  • Strong technical/IP knowledge, market and customer strategy and planning experience
  • Experience with CRM (Salesforce preferred), opportunity management and other sales systems and tools

The base salary range for this position is $96,000 to $140,000.

At Eastman, we are committed to transparency and integrity in our compensation practices.
